Alexa/Madewell

One of my favorite people in the world...Alexa Chung is creating her own line?! When did this happen. Granted it was either her become a singer, actress, or start her own fragrance...but I wasn't expecting this yet but I guess the time is right.
But what about Madewell...maybe this is a good step for both of them.

“It was like a dream, really,” Alexa said of her first ever collaboration with the label. “I really love their brand and really like their vision and how relaxed and laid-back it is.”

The presentation, on Monday, followed this same aesthetic, casual yet lively and upbeat, thanks to the live DJ—a friend of Alexa’s—and friendly chatting between the models, Alexa, and several other guests. And it was no surprise the clothes were adorable; tea dresses, stripes, and perfectly layered cardigans and jackets all had that polished vintage feel Alexa channels so well.

As far as casting goes, and with us being model-obsessed, we were curious as to what Alexa looked for in choosing the perfect girls to represent her new line. “Well, I really like girls with long hair, because I have short hair myself, so I really just cast girls I want to be!” We observed, and yes, the majority of the girls did have long hair! But head Madewell designer Kin Lee chimed in to tell us Alexa also wanted her models to be “someone you want to walk up and talk to.”

my girl Erin...whether she likes it or not

I didn't "attend" the Erin Wasson show yesterday, like I got to pleasantly experience last season, but that doesn't mean I wasn't waiting for the collection to go up on style.com. I was jonesing for this collection. Erin has a way about her that I feel is very familiar. I can relate to her aesthetic to the t and I pride her on her music choices she seems to turn out for the second time. Booking a Brooklyn based band, Yeasayer, was what probably made this show more perfect. The only thing I'm wondering is...Why ABC Home and Furnishings?? I mean I love the store, but doesn't seem in line with Erin's vision. Seems like a basement in BK would do a much better job of sticking to her mentality of her interest in '60's and 90's style grunge.

Also notice the makeup on these models. So interesting

Brown, White, and Black

I am not usually one to love plain colors but something about the duo design team, Cushnie et Ochs, has got me smitten. They seem to have found inspiration in several different things. Sleekness probably inspired by motorcycles and fast cars. Asymmetrical adornment. Cut outs. Slouchyness. Sparkles. As you can see, there is a wide array that influences this design team. I love how they had a lot of commercial pieces that editors and buyers most likely loved. But they kept this collection fun and sexy.

Chado Chado Chado

The delicate edges and trimmings of these garments make me tingle inside. I love the mix of sheer and Fur, the unconventional usage of lines, and the sensual side that these clothes bring out. There is something really stimulating that is inherit in these clothes. Congrats Ralph Rucci. Maybe this makes up for the firing of Kelly Cutrone. But I could go either way on that issue.

I'm in desperate need of Mexico

I have to say I thoroughly enjoy Jean Paul Gaultier's willingness to play. I was excited to see this collection. Some of the pieces I could take it or leave it, but I honor the overall turnout and the adornment.
